The Genesis of Gunamay Majumdar Educational Trust
GCC BIOTECH has established symbiotic relationship with world’s largest and best technology innovative companies like Promega, Invitrogen, Strategene, Caymen, Lonza, RBC Life Sc, SPL, Bethyl, Biochain and many other high end technology providers. For Bioinformatics, we are partnered with Belgium based Applied Math. GCC Biotech has ascertained an engaging relationship with premier science and technology establishments in India including CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DRDO, DAE etc. Owing to its intimate relationship with biotechnology industry GCC Biotech felt a dire need for trained manpower in this segment in India. Right now India has a meager 1- 2 % market share of the global Biotech industry with a US $ 2.16 billion revenue, however, this figure does not reflect India’s true potential and it is expected that one million trained human resources in this sector are required by 2010.

In this emerging scenario Gunamay Majumdar Institute of Science & Technology (G MIST) is a state-of-the-art technology institute under the auspices of Gunamay Majumdar Educational Trust which is committed to develop globally competitive human resources to accelerate the pace of innovation and discoveries in India. G MIST has developed its course curriculum to harness India’s huge talent pool and make them industry-savvy and IP-hungry. Furthermore, Indian industry recommends three to six months intensive hands on training with cutting edge technology platforms for the entry level scientists. G MIST has developed a high-tech facility of international standard near IIM Kolkata to provide much needed hands-on skills of students and enable them to utilize vista of opportunities in the ever-expanding world of biotechnology.

Located in the vicinity of IIM Kolkata, the Institute will foster collaboration with national and international educational and research organizations in government and the private sector
 
At the national and global levels, it acts as a bridge between the biotechnology industry and educators, developing links between corporate sectors and their employees and teachers and students of the academic institutes.
 
The Institute has a special mandate to contribute towards rural reconstruction of resurgent India through  education,  innovation  and  extension .
 
The Institute has made a strong commitment towards conservation of India’s wonderful Biodiversity.
 
The Institute has a pledge to adopt international standard of teaching with sufficient emphasis in practical training to attain world-class capabilities and give India a leverage in this segment.
 
The institute will nurture the existing talent pools in India and guide them towards a risk-taking technopreneurial path in the realm of biotechnology.
 
To conduct  independent research work in niche areas including Biotherapeutics & Molecular Diagnostic, vaccine development for human and animal health.

Ultra Hi-tech facility
The students will be thoroughly exposed to Contemporary and common genetic engineering techniques/laboratory procedures which include gene cloning, DNA sequencing and protein purification etc. which constitute the integral part of the         G MIST curriculum. Extensive research time and WI/FI connectivity will be provided to allow access to the enormous amount of data and information available on the World Wide Web and to develop bioinformatics products of interest and practical utility. Such an approach provides students with an understanding of how biological experimentation is carried out and also the kind of theoretical inputs that are required to meaningfully design and conduct experiments and possibly design new protocols
